Ottawa, the capital of Canada, has been our home since 1992. Ray was an engineer with Bell Canada and Jeanne worked in the IT world, most recently with Systemhouse (which got taken over by MCI then EDS) in Ottawa. We are both now retired and have time to pursue our other interests and travel the world. Ottawa is a great place for us to bicycle, hike in the Gatineau hills, ski and skate in the winter, and play a little tennis.

In 1999 and 2000 we combined trips to Nepal with backpacking through South East Asia and India. This was so successful we plan to spend 3 or 4 months each year exploring more countries. In 2001, we left at the end of October for New Zealand, with stop offs first in the Cook Islands and Fiji. We flew to Buenos Aires in mid-November 2002 and toured through Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador and Peru before returning to Ottawa in mid-March 2003. For the 2003-4 season, we spent five months touring Australia and had a stop-over of two weeks in Malaysia on the way home in March. 2005 brought two trips. We spent seven weeks in October and November touring Andalucia, Spain, then we left again in January 2005 for three months in Central America. The fall of 2005 found us celebrating 40th anniversaries in the Greek Islands with Ray's siblings Jack and Carolyn and their spouses. We spent the winter of 2005 in Mexico and then had a great walking trip across England in May-June 2006. Our next adventure was nine weeks in South Africa starting October 2006, then we returned to Mexico for February and March 2007, followed by a visit to Ireland in April-May 2007. We spent the winter of 2007-8 in the Philippines, where we volunteered for the month of December with CERV on Tablas Island in the Romblons (see the Travel section for photos and writeups).

Add to this our trips to hike in the Adirondacks and New Hampshire and bicycle trips to Vermont, Virginia and Italy and we don't have time to work anymore. Life is too short.

Our son, Ross, lives in Barrie, Ontario with his wife Sherri and their three active boys, Tyler (11), Ryan (9) and Gavin (5). Ross works in the parts department of Premier Peterbilt Trucks in Brampton. This is an ideal job for him as he has had a life long fascination for 18 wheeler trucks. Sherri operates an office cleaning business in Barrie.

Our daughter, Erica, and her husband Andrew Auerbach and their two boys, Atticus, who was three years old on Christmas Day 2007 and Roman, who turned one on January 6, 2008 have just moved to Paris France where Andrew has taken a job with OECD (Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development). Erica is still on maternity leave from McGill University but will be soon looking for a job in Paris. As you may have guessed, Paris has just been added to our list of must see places to visit.
