Ottawa, the capital of Canada, has been our home since 1992. Ray was an engineer with Bell Canada and Jeanne worked in the IT world, most recently with Systemhouse (which got taken over by MCI then EDS) in Ottawa. We are both now retired and have time to pursue our other interests and travel the world. Ottawa is a great place for us to bicycle, hike in the Gatineau hills, ski and skate in the winter, and play a little tennis.

In the winter of 1999-2000 we combined a trip to Nepal with backpacking through South East Asia. This was so successful we have been spending up to 5 months each year exploring more countries. We added another dimension to our travels the last two winters by volunteering for a month as part of our trip. In December 2007 we volunteered on Tablas Island in the Philippines. January 2009 was spent at an Animal Rescue Center in Thailand.

(see the Travels section for photos and writeups).

Add to this our hikes in the Gatineaus around Ottawa, the Adirondacks and New Hampshire and bicycle trips to Vermont, Virginia and Italy and we don't have time to work anymore. Life is too short.

Our Family

Our son, Ross, lives in Barrie, Ontario with his wife Sherri and their three active boys, Tyler (13), Ryan (11) and Gavin (7). Ross works in the parts department of Freightliner Trucks in Thornhill. This is an ideal job for him as he has had a life long fascination for 18 wheeler trucks. Sherri operates an office cleaning business in Barrie.

Our daughter, Erica, and her husband Andrew Auerbach and their two boys, Atticus (5) and Roman (3) moved to Paris France in October 2007 where Andrew has taken a job with OECD (Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development). Erica is now working as a librarian at Ecole Active Bilingue, a private bilingual school near their apartment. Andrew has had his contract extended until October 2012 so Paris threatens to become a regular stopping point for us. We have visited the family several times in the last two years and are getting to know the system very well.
