It was time to discover Mexico. We had last visited fifteen years ago and then only the Club Med in Cancun. So many fellow travellers had spoken of their wanderings in Mexico that we decided to find out more about the country and its people. Besides it was another opportunity to practise our new Spanish skills. We flew to Mexico City on December 19, 2005 and spent three and a half months travelling by mostly first class buses from town to town and beach to beach. We used our favourite Lonely Planet guide book to choose hotels from the budget category and sought our inexpensive places to eat. It worked very well.
